LHC stops handover of 45,000-acre Punjab land to army on lease
Lahore High Court stopped the Punjab caretaker government from handing over approximately 45,000 acres of land to the Pakistan Army
LAHORE: Lahore High Court’sThe Punjab caretaker administration, led by Mohsin Naqvi, was prevented by Justice Abid Hussain Chattha from leasing out about 45,000 acres of land to the Pakistan Army for corporate agriculture farming.The Pakistan Army had been granted a lease on 45,267 acres of land in the districts of Bhakkar, Khushab, and Sahiwal by the caretaker Punjab administration for a corporate agriculture farming scheme. On March 8, 2023, the interim administration agreed to transfer the property to the army through a joint venture.
A warning was previously sent out on February 20, 2023. In response to a petition filed by Ahmad Rafay Alam on behalf of the Public Interest Law Association of Pakistan, the court halted the transfer of the property to the army.
