WASHINGTON: The United States expressed its worry about the escalating number of terrorist attacks in Pakistan and the outlawed group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Thursday by declaring that Afghanistan should not serve as a safe haven for terrorists. According to Elizabeth Horst, the State Department official in charge of Pakistan, "Pakistan-US cooperation continues in this regard after the withdrawal," she expressed remorse that hundreds of lives were lost and negatively impacted by terrorism.According to Horst, it is in the best interests of both nations to exert pressure on the Taliban to keep their word since a stable and peaceful Afghanistan is beneficial to Pakistan. The State Department representative stated that both countries are cooperating on regional security, counterterrorism, and drug enforcement. She said that the working group on counterterrorism convened and that mid-level defence discussions took place at this time, noting that the security relations had strengthened over the previous year. It was emphasised by Horst when discussing Pakistan's agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that Pakistan must carry out the necessary hanges demanded by the Washington-based lender. Since late January, the two parties have been in tense negotiations to come to an understanding on a number of requirements before signing the agreement, which also includes outside money from friendly nations.
